Before we get into every route in detail, three facts save first-time buyers a lot of confusion.

1. Yiwu is not a first-tier city. There is only one international destination from Yiwu Airport (Hong Kong), and no subway inside the city. That means for 95% of international buyers, the real question is not "how do I fly to Yiwu?" — it is "which mainland Chinese city do I fly into, and how do I get from there to Yiwu?"

2. You will use three hubs inside Yiwu:

Yiwu Railway Station

Yiwu Coach Station

Officially Yiwu International Trade City Passenger Transport Center (义乌国际商贸城客运中心). Directly opposite Yiwu Market District 3 — you can literally walk to your first supplier.

Shanghai to Yiwu — 4 ways compared

Shanghai is 268 km from Yiwu. It has two airports (Pudong PVG, Hongqiao SHA) and two major train stations (Hongqiao, Shanghai). Most European, North American and Middle Eastern buyers land in Shanghai first, so this is the highest-traffic route.

1. Bullet train from Shanghai to Yiwu (recommended)

This is what 8 out of 10 seasoned buyers use. The Shanghai–Kunming high-speed line connects Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (虹桥站) to Yiwu Railway Station (义乌站) in as little as 1 hour 7 minutes. 72+ trains run every day, from 05:23 to 23:50, so you rarely need to plan far ahead.

Which Shanghai station should you use?

Hongqiao Railway Station (虹桥站) is the one you want. It has direct metro connection (Line 2, Line 10) to central Shanghai, and it is co-located with Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (SHA) — you can walk from the airport to the train station in 10 minutes. Nearly all Yiwu-bound bullet trains leave from Hongqiao.

Shanghai Railway Station (上海站) in Zhabei has fewer direct trains. Avoid unless your hotel is in that specific area.

2. Long-distance coach from Shanghai to Yiwu

The most convenient coach service is the direct bus from Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG) to Yiwu Coach Station. After clearing customs, follow the "Long-Distance Bus" signs (or ask staff for "长途汽车"). The desk is on the ground floor arrivals level.

3. DiDi or private car from Shanghai

A private car (via DiDi, Ctrip car service, or an arranged sourcing-agent car) costs ¥800–1,200 and takes 3.5 hours door-to-door. If you are three or more people or have very heavy sample bags, splitting the fare beats the train.

Carpooling from PVG to Yiwu costs about ¥200–300 per person if you can find three others going the same way — check with your sourcing agent, or ask at the airport coach counter, where drivers sometimes wait for last-minute passengers.

4. Flight from Shanghai to Yiwu — skip this

Hangzhou to Yiwu — 4 ways compared

Hangzhou is only 100 km from Yiwu, and the bullet train covers that in 28 minutes. But most international buyers do not arrive in "Hangzhou city" — they arrive at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH), which is 40 km east of downtown Hangzhou. That changes the routing.

5. Bullet train from Hangzhou to Yiwu (fastest, 28 minutes)

There are three Hangzhou stations that run to Yiwu: Hangzhou East (杭州东站), Hangzhou West (杭州西站), and Hangzhou South. Together they operate over 120 trains a day, with the earliest around 06:15 and the latest close to 22:30. The fastest is 28 minutes; some slower trains stop at Zhuji and take 40–50 minutes.

At this distance and price, 2nd class is fine even for VIP guests — you are seated for less than 30 minutes.

6. Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport (HGH) to Yiwu — the international buyer's route

This is the most common entry point for international buyers who cannot get a direct flight to Yiwu. Here are the four ways down from HGH:

After 21:00 the airport shuttle stops. Your options are DiDi (¥450–500, 1.5h), private car service (¥500–600), or carpooling with other buyers heading to Yiwu (¥150 per person). The Yiwu-bound drivers cluster near the airport arrivals exit — look for handwritten signs that say "义乌" or ask airport staff for the "拼车" (carpool) area.

Option C — Bullet train (only if you land in the morning)

Take Metro Line 1 or the airport shuttle to Hangzhou East Railway Station (~1 hour, ¥25), then a 28-minute bullet train to Yiwu. Total time ~2 hours, total cost ~¥75. Only worth it if you land early morning and want to combine with a brief Hangzhou stop.

Option D — Long-distance coach from HGH bus terminal

The airport bus counter also sells long-distance coach tickets to Yiwu. This is the same as Option A above; different operators, similar price.

Guangzhou to Yiwu — 4 ways compared

Guangzhou is 1,200+ km from Yiwu. This is the route where the choice really matters — get it wrong and you waste a full day.

7. Flight from Guangzhou to Yiwu (highly recommended)

If your international flight lands at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN), the connecting flight to Yiwu is by far your best option. The flight itself is 2 hours, and CAN → YIW is served by China Southern, Xiamen Airlines and Shenzhen Airlines. There are 5–6 daily flights, most in the afternoon and evening.

8. High-speed train from Guangzhou to Yiwu (only if you like train travel)

There are no direct high-speed trains from Guangzhou to Yiwu — you must transfer. The two most common routes:

9. Long-distance coach from Guangzhou (only for very budget-conscious travelers)

Shenzhen to Yiwu — 4 ways compared

Shenzhen is 1,300+ km from Yiwu. Similar to Guangzhou, the answer is almost always "fly." But Shenzhen has one thing Guangzhou does not — a single direct bullet train (D2284) that saves you the transfer hassle.

11. Direct D2284 bullet train from Shenzhen North to Yiwu

Only one train per day makes the direct trip — D2284, departing Shenzhen North Railway Station (深圳北站) in the morning, arriving Yiwu in the late afternoon. It takes 8.5 hours.

Because it is a single daily train, tickets sell out fast during trade fair season (April, October). Book at least a week in advance on the 12306 app or Trip.com.

12. Alternative: train with transfer at Hangzhou West

Shenzhen North → Hangzhou West (transfer 20–40 min) → Yiwu. Total time 7–10 hours, price ¥515–800. Useful only if D2284 is sold out or your schedule does not match.

The Yiwu International Trade City Coach Station (义乌国际商贸城客运中心) has departures throughout the day to Shanghai (¥120–200), Hangzhou (¥60), Ningbo (¥80), and Nanjing (¥170). Buy at the station window with your passport 30 minutes before departure — no need to book online.

Getting around within Yiwu

Yiwu is a county-level city with limited public transport: no metro, buses stop early (few after 18:00, none after 19:00 near the wholesale markets), and even locals rely on taxis. Here is what actually works.

Yiwu Airport to your hotel / market

Yiwu Airport is only 5.5 km from downtown. Official taxi rates:

• First 2 km: ¥8 / $1.15
• 2–6 km: ¥2.5 / km / $0.36 per km
• Beyond 6 km: ¥3.5 / km / $0.50 per km

Total fare to Yiwu Market or downtown hotels: ¥25–35. Always insist the driver uses the meter (打表 dǎ biǎo) — some airport drivers try to negotiate a ¥100+ fixed price with foreigners. Refuse and walk to the next taxi.

Yiwu Railway Station to hotel / market

Yiwu Railway Station is 9 km northwest of downtown. Taxi fare: ¥30–35. There is a proper taxi rank right outside the exit — no negotiation needed if the driver uses the meter.

Yiwu Coach Station to hotel

The coach station is directly opposite Yiwu Market District 3. Most 4-star hotels (Marriott, Crowne Plaza, Best Western Premier) are a 3–5 km taxi ride away, costing ¥10–15. If your hotel is in the Chouzhou North Road area (where most foreign restaurants and small hotels are), it is a 10-minute walk or a ¥8 taxi.

Yiwu city buses

480 buses run 18 routes, minimum fare ¥2. Useful lines:

• Bus 801, 802, 821 — Yiwu Railway Station ↔ downtown ↔ Yiwu Market
• Airport shuttle — Yiwu Airport ↔ Yiwu Market (¥2, every 15 min, 30 min ride)

Signs and announcements are in Chinese only. If your Chinese is weak, just take a taxi — it is cheap.

DiDi for foreigners in China — 2026 guide

DiDi (滴滴出行) is the Chinese Uber. It works flawlessly in Yiwu, and is cheaper than street taxis for airport pickups or late-night rides. Since 2024, DiDi finally accepts foreign phone numbers and international credit cards — a huge improvement.

Middle Eastern or African buyer via Guangzhou
